R1M inspired colours and premium finish

The SP's heightened status is signified by its exclusive Icon Performance liveries inspired by the R1M. These Supersport-influenced colours reinforce the MT-09 SP's sporty character and highlight the close technological links to the R1M – the most advanced production motorcycle ever built by Yamaha. A premium finish such as the brushed aluminium swing arm further elevates the high-quality look and feel of this machine.

Customisable TRACK Yamaha Ride Control settings

In addition to the three factory-set riding modes SPORT, STREET, RAIN and the two extra customisable modes, the MT-09 SP exclusively features the addition of TRACK modes, enabling you to customise four extra patterns to suit certain track scenarios. The individual TRACK modes allow for more refined, specialised settings including the option of choosing between two engine brake management settings and the ability to alter the level of brake control. Additionally, you can also turn off rear ABS to further enhance on-track performance.

Premium Brembo Stylema® calipers

New Brembo monoblock Stylema® calipers refine braking performance with the very latest technology from the famous Italian firm. The calipers feature a slimmer piston and brake pad area, compared to conventional calipers, as well as being lighter, more rigid and offering enhanced control in braking input. In addition, larger diameter pistons are adopted for increased braking forces allowing you to experience the next level in braking performance.

Exclusive fully-adjustable suspension systems

SP-exclusive premium suspension brings Supersport-level handling and precision to the Hyper Naked class. The 41 mm DLC coated KYB forks and Öhlins rear shock feature a higher spring rate offering outstanding stability during more spirited, sporty riding. You can fine tune their set-up to suit a variety of different riding situations with the forks fully adjustable for preload, re-bound and compression damping, while the Öhlins shock is equipped with a remote preload adjuster to enable quick and easy changes.

Smart Key System

Taking the next leap in technological advancement, the MT-09 SP becomes the first Hyper Naked to feature Yamaha's Smart Key System. The engine is started by pressing and turning the newly designed switch, provided that the smart key is within a specified range such as in your pocket. The all-new switch also features a lock and unlock option for the fuel tank cap, further simplifying the riding experience.

6-axis IMU and lean-sensitive rider aids

Developed from the R1, the compact six-axis IMU controls the MT-09 SP’s high-tech rider aids including a three-mode Traction Control System (TCS), Slide Control System (SCS), front wheel Lift Control System (LIF) and Brake Control System. This best-in-class technology now features a Back Slip Regulator (BSR), which offers stabilisation when the rear wheel locks under excessive braking by controlling the level of torque produced.

Full colour 5-inch TFT display with connectivity a

Full colour 5-inch TFT instruments provide an option of five different themes, including the SP-specific TRACK theme, to suit your individual requirements and riding situation, which you can scroll through using the all-new handlebar switches. You can also link your smartphone to the new TFT screen via the MyRide app to receive message notifications, calls and listen to music*. Full map navigation is also available through the free Garmin StreetCross app to make each journey easier. *Requires Bluetooth connected headset linked to the MT-09 SP. Headset not included.

Engaged riding position

The MT-09 SP is renowned for its agility and stability and this is enhanced by refined ergonomics, allowing the rider to feel at one with the machine by offering greater freedom of movement for different riding styles. In order to achieve this, the handlebar position is now lower and features two customisable positions, while the newly designed footrests are also adjustable. A new two-part seat further amplifies the feeling of freedom while riding.

Acoustic amplifier grilles for an enhanced riding

The grin-inducing roar of the CP3 is one of its most defining characteristics, evoking a sense of pure adrenaline with every twist of the throttle. The MT-09 SP features specifically designed air-intake ducts which accentuate the high frequency sounds, which are then emphasised, especially at higher speed, by an acoustic amplifier grille on top of the fuel tank, delivering the CP3's vibrant note directly to you.

Latest EU5+ 890cc CP3 engine

The liquid-cooled, three-cylinder engine is light and powerful, offering high torque at low rpm. The acoustic harmony which results from a combination of the induction sound and exhaust note gives the CP3 its recognisable roar, which heightens the feeling of acceleration. The fuel injectors give increased efficiency, while optimised gear ratios and a refined A&S (assist and slipper) clutch match the high output of the engine.

Lightweight CF die-cast aluminium frame

The compact CF (controlled filling) die-cast aluminium frame design is a modern take on the iconic Deltabox layout, providing a high level of chassis stiffness for excellent rider feedback and stability. Its optimised swingarm pivot structure and its light and slim chassis give a more laidback feel making the MT-09 SP a partner for all kinds of sporty riding.

Intuitive switchgear, indicator functions and Emer

Integrated handlebar switch assemblies enable operation of the MT-09 SP's wider range of functions, including smartphone connectivity, navigation and riding modes as well as exploring further menu options. Intuitive new turn signal functions further enhance the riding experience. A soft click of the indicator switch will flash the turn signals three times for use when changing lanes, while a full click makes them flash continuously. The indicators will also self-cancel once 15 seconds have passed and the bike has travelled for more than 150 metres. New Emergency Stop Signalling (ESS) will also engage the hazard lights when the system detects sudden braking.
