1946 – Greengrocers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The earliest picture we have of our shop. At this time it was a popular greengrocers in the area, known as E. L. Barber. Owned by Earnest Leonard Barber and his daughter Joan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

1955<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We recently found this photo online. This is looking down George Lane from South Woodford Station. We are on the corner half way down the road, the one with the awning on the corner.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

1958 – Woodford Scooters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The shop became Woodford Scooters in 1958, opened by John Witham and Dennis & Gladis Maybee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sidecar in the photo above lost control and crashed through the front door.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

1965<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The shop quickly established itself selling customised and heavily accessorised Vespa and Lambretta scooters, for the fashion conscious mods.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

1973 – Yamaha & Honda<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Woodford Scooters started selling Yamaha in 1972 and Honda in 1973.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

1980 – Woodford Motorcycles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

By the early eighties they had outgrown the showroom, so 51 George Lane was purchased and the newly enlarged showroom was re-named to Woodford Motorcycles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

1995<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On the 25th of March 1995, after 37 years in the trade, Dennis, Gladys and John retired and the shop was purchased by the current owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alan Mitchell, a former manager at Eddy Grimstead Motorcycles in Newbury Park, and Brett Randall, who had his own local workshop and is one of the most knowledgeable technicians in the UK.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

2006 – Exclusive Yamaha<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Woodford Motorcycles became a premier exclusive Yamaha dealership and became one of Yamaha’s top dealers, having won Yamaha Dealer of the Year and Ride Magazine’s Top London Dealer several years running.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

2013<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The property was extended by adding flats above and an additional self contained showroom on the side. The new showroom was opened as Woodford Cycle Centre, a family run Giant retailer and bicycle repair shop.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

2015<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The full extension was completed by adding a self contained flat and a shop underneath, which became Ana’s Cakes & Coffee in 2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

2020<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

New signage was installed on the outside of the showroom, along with a colour change, to match Yamaha’s new showroom designs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Latest<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Our showroom re-design was completed in 2023 as per Yamaha Motor UK’s design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The showroom is now divided into sections to suit the different models: Race, Feel and Move.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
